KARACHI, May 1: Pakistan Champion Farhan Mirza was still in a run for a place in the 19th Asian Snooker Championship now in progress at Jiangmen City (China) after winning two matches, according to information available with Pakistan Billiards and Snooker Association (PBSA) Wednesday.

Farhan had won four of his five league matches, losing one in seven-men group “F”.

However Pakistan number one Khurram Hussain Agha was knocked out of the race for the place in the pre-quarterfinal after losing his matches.

Seeded sixth for the Asian event Farhan handed out 4-1 drubbing to Ahmed Al-Turket including a superb break of 77 in the penultimate frame.

Lanky Farhan gave fine display of dipping the multicolored balls to record 70-34, 73-30, 61-69, 100-0, 82-22 victory.

Farhan maintained his winning sequence when he out-potted debutant Quamran Shahla from Islamic Republic of Iran 61-18, 55- 25, 45-18, 72-10.

Now Farhan’s chances to make the last 16 stage of the competition hinges on his fine league match against local boy Da Hai Lin of China.

Khurram showed disappointing performance when he went down to Chan Wai Ki of Hong Kong 2-4. The match was locked two- frames all at one stage but Chan wrapped up the last two frames to secure 18-54, 56-48 23-74, 4-63, 70-43, 61-42 win.

In his next match Khurram lost to unfancied Qatar cueist Mohsen Abdel Aziz in fully extended seven frames tussle.

Khurram was enjoying 3-1 lead at one stage of the match but his Qatari opponents fought from jaws of defeat to register a thrilling win. Mohsen won 68-18, 41-68, 45-58, 47-54 72-53, 42-35, 62-09.—APP
