COLOMBO, May 28: The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has decided to have its own team and individual rankings while keeping in line with the International Cricket Council rankings following the Asian body’s executive board members meeting in Colombo.

Chaired by Sri Lanka Cricket Interim Committee Chairman Arjuna Ranatunga, other top administrators who attended were Indian cricket board secretary Niranjan Shah and President elect Shashank Manohar, Pakistan Cricket Board chief Dr Nasim Ashraf, ACC Chief Executive Officer Ashraful Huq and Bangladesh Cricket Board President M. Abdul Aziz.

In addition Sri Lanka’s first Test captain and present SLC Director Operations Bandula Warnapura was appointed as ACC Development Manager for two years. It was earlier held by Sultan Rana.

The ACC will form their own rankings from next month and will pick the best batsman, best bowler and best all-rounder in Test and One-day Internationals annually. The rankings will also combine with women’s cricket.

Furthermore, the ACC will annually felicitate four former Test players and four officials who have done yeoman services for their country and the region.

This will be launched at ACC’s 25th anniversary celebrations which will be held on July 5 prior to the Asia Cup final in Karachi. Pakistan will take over the ACC chairmanship for the next two years with Dr Nasim Ashraf succeeding Ranatunga.

ACC’s annual general meeting will be held in Pakistan during the Asia Cup due to be held from June 24 to July 6.

Representatives from Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, United Arab Emirates, Brunei, Bhutan, Papua New Guinea and Thailand are also attended the meeting.—Agencies
