HYDERABAD, May 26: The director general of Health Services Sindh, Dr Ghulam Nabi Memon, said on Monday that the donor agencies were very annoyed over re-emergence of polio cases in Sindh and expressed their reservations over the anti-polio exercise carried out from time to time under government supervision.

He said at a meeting with health officers and representatives of WHO and UNICEF at his office that out of nine new cases of polio across the country, eight were reported in Sindh, which spoke volumes for the inefficiency of immunisation staff.

He directed health officials to work with dedication and sincerity during the anti-polio drives to ensure that no more polio cases were reported. Negligence would not be tolerated and if a family refused to get their children immunised, it should immediately be reported to higher authorities, he said.

Later, the DG visited a free medical camp in Tandojam, which was organised by the Hyderabad Union of Journalists in collaboration with Association for Research and Development of Rural Areas, DG Health Services and Civil Hospital.

Mr Memon praised media for playing a role in educating people in health issues and urged general public to cooperate with health officers to ensure success of anti-polio campaigns.

Neurosurgeon Riaz Ahmed Raja, skin specialist Dr Younus, eye specialist Dr Javed and Dr Lal Khan among others examined 800 patients who were provided medicines free of charge.
