LANDI KOTAL, May 21: Four close relatives of MNA Maulana Noorul Haq Qadri and Senator Hafiz Abdul Malik were gunned down on Wednesday morning.

Those killed were identified as Humayun, younger brother of Maulana Qadri and Senator Malik; Nooruddin, son of Senator Malik; Abdul Azeem, uncle of Maulana Qadri; and Salim alias Bacha, brother-in-law of Senator Malik.

They were going to Peshawar from Landi Kotal when their car came under fire near Jamrud. Humayun died on the spot and the others in a Peshawar hospital.

After the incident, hundreds of the activists of Tanzim-i-Ahle Sunnat wal Jamaat, a religious organisation which is led by Maulana Qadri and Senator Malik, started firing into the air and blocked the Peshawar-Torkham road for some time.

Relations between the Bara-based Lashkar-i-Islam and the parliamentarian brothers have not been good for a long time because their Tanzim opposed Lashkar’s efforts to extend its area of activities to Landi Kotal and Jamrud.

The Tanzim has large number of followers in the two tehsils of Khyber Agency.
