ISLAMABAD, May 21: The All Parties Democratic Movement decided on Wednesday to hold a national conference on June 18-19, instead of June 1, and to hold countrywide protests to put pressure on the government to reinstate the deposed judges.

Speaking at a news conference here Jamaat-i-Islami’s Liaquat Baloch, who heads a committee formed to organise the conference, said the date had been changed because of ‘pre-scheduled foreign engagements of JI chief Qazi Hussain Ahmed and Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf chairman Imran Khan.

The committee had earlier decided to ‘profusely welcome the deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry on May 24 when he embarks on his Faisalabad tour’.

APDM will hold seminars in Lahore and Karachi on May 27 and 28, respectively, ahead of the national conference.

The committee will invite student organisations, labour leaders, journalists, former diplomats, retired army officers and former speakers and deputy speakers to attend the conference.

Mr Baloch said the Pakistan Muslim League-N had objectives similar to those of the APDM but a decision to invite them would be taken by the top leadership.

Mr Baloch said the APDM believed that the coalition government had miserably failed to provide any relief to the people.
