MITHI, May 20: Speakers at a seminar on “Health and Cleanliness” emphasised that health education should be imparted to students at schools.

The seminar was organised by Government Boys Middle School Pabuhar under the aegis of an NGO, Sukar Foundation.

Allama Iqbal Open University Regional Director Mohammad Ramzan Junejo addressing on the occasion said that various subjects had been taught at schools hence it would of benefit if two periods in a week were arranged at schools exclusively on health education.

The coordinator of Sukar Foundation, Qamar Zaman Shah, said that at the initial stage, 23 schools of Thar had been selected for introducing health education as a subject in the schools. He said that teachers would also be imparted training on the subject through Aga Khan University.

Besides other subjects, these trained teachers would teach health as a separate subject for two periods in a week, he added.

He urged that every student should brush their teeth, take bath daily, wear neat clothes, eat simple food and live a simple life and that can pave their way to a successful life.

A team of schoolchildren enthralled the audience by presenting tableaus.

Educationalist Chela Ram, Lima Ram and others also spoke on the occasion.

KILLED: A newly-married young girl was killed by her husband in the Kaloi area on Tuesday.

Patu, 22, was staying with her parents in Bacho Bhoot village near Kaloi. His husband Paru came there to take her to their home but she refused to go with him. This enraged Paru who killed axed her to death outside her parents’ house.

The Kaloi police took the body to the Civil Hospital Mithi for post-mortem and arrested the accused.
