Lack of matches upsets Kenya

NAIROBI, May 14: Cricket Kenya said on Wednesday it was dissatisfied with lack of international fixtures for the national team ahead of the 2011 World Cup qualifiers in Dubai early next year.

Kenya has only one official ODI against South Africa, but the fixture scheduled for Oct 30-Nov 1 may not take place as the dates clash with a home tie with Ireland in the ICC Intercontinental Cup tournament.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) had accepted to host Kenya in the two One-day Internationals in May but the matches were pushed to June before they were again deferred to November due to a tight home schedule.

“We are faced with a dilemma whether to honour the series,” said Cricket Kenya chief Samir Inamdar.

“The CSA informed us today that they were only prepared to host us on these two days and yet at the same time we will be playing Ireland at home. We will have not choice but to try and switch the dates for the Intercontinental Cup.”—AFP
