SIALKOT, May 8: A seven-member inquiry committee on Thursday recommended the suspension of doctors and paramedical staff on whose absence from the duty cost the life of PML-N MPA Rana Tariq Mehmood.

The committee, headed by DCO Capt Atta Muhammad Khan (retired), was constituted on the order of Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Dost Muhammad Khosa.

The probe committee found Dr Arif Sheikh and subordinate staff of Government Sardar Begum Hospital, surgeon Ejaz Chattha and paramedical staff of DHQ Hospital and Dr Arif Mahmood and paramedical staff of the Trauma Centre guilty of charges.

The committee sent the report to the Punjab chief minister for action against the negligent doctors and the paramedical staff.

The DCO, in his capacity, had already suspended DHQ Hospital dispenser Iqbal Passia.

MPA Rana Tariq Mehmood had sustained serious injuries in an accident on Daska-Sialkot Road on Tuesday night.

He had been taken to three government hospitals one after the other where neither the duty doctors nor the paramedical staff were present.

Finally, the MPA was rushed to a private hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding.

TWO KILLED: Two persons were killed and 13 another sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Thursday near Saadhery village, Zafarwal.

Reports said an overloaded bus, coming to Zafarwal from Lahore, rammed into a roadside tree due to high speed. Consequently, Bashir Ahmad and Sultan Ahmad of Zafarwal died on the spot while 13 others, including women and children, suffered serious injuries. Two of them were shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition.

Zafarwal police have registered a case against the absconding driver.

He said this while addressing traders at the Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) after visiting several leading industrial units here on Thursday.
