SHEIKHUPURA, April 27: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool has said that the nation was under an obligation to elect Gen Pervez Musharraf in the forthcoming referendum.

He was speaking at a meeting at Narang Mandi, some 70 km away from here, on Saturday after inaugurating the Sui-gas supply project. The project has been completed at a cost of Rs116.12 million and 8,000 gas connections will be provided.

The governor said if the area people cast their vote in the referendum, a degree college for women and a commercial training institute for boys would be constructed in Narang Mandi.

He said that work to widen the Kala Khatai and Muridke-Narang road would be started soon.

Criticizing the politicians who were opposing the presidential referendum, the governor said that they were neither sincere to nation nor to the country. “They want to remain in politics only to plunder the exchequer. The present regime, with the support of masses, would not allow them to fulfil their nefarious designs.”

District and Tehsil Nazimeen of Ferozewal also spoke on the occasion.

GUJRAT: Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool said on Saturday that the government would distribute Rs6 million loans on soft terms among the farmers.

He was speaking at a function held at Asghar Town, Lalamusa, in connection with the Kharian Spring Festival.

The governor said that the loans would be given to the poor farmers of the Punjab on merit.

He said that out of the Zakat fund, Rs3 billion would be distributed among the needy and deserving people in the Punjab.

He said that the government was planning to waive off loans from Rs25,000 to Rs100,000 of any department.

District Nazim Chaudhry Shafaat Hussain and Kharian Tehsil Nazim Chaudhry Nadeem Asghar Kiara also spoke at the meeting attended by Nazimeen, Naib Nazimeen and councillors.

Earlier, the governor inaugurated the construction of a road from Sarai Alamgir to Head Rasool which would be completed at a cost of Rs20 million.
