BAHAWALPUR, May 5: A union council nazim, who was allegedly kidnapped for a Rs2 million ransom about four days ago, could not be recovered.

Dawn learnt that Iqbal Goraya, a resident of Chak 15-DNB near Yazman and a close associate of district nazim Tariq Cheema, went to Rawalpindi a few days back to leave his daughter there.

He proceeded from Rawalpindi to Peshawar where some unidentified people kidnapped him. Later, the accused telephoned his family and demanded Rs2 million for his release. According to sources, after receiving information district nazim Tariq Cheema rushed to Peshawar where he was trying to contact his captors.

It is said that the reason for his kidnapping can be some money dispute or ejectment of some transporters from the local general bus stand where Iqbal Goraya was involved in the allotment of land for bus and wagons stands. — Correspondent
