PESHAWAR, May 5: Residents of various localities in the city have complained of getting contaminated water for many months and urged the government to take notice of the matter.

The people of the Gulabad Road area said the water supply line near the Abubakar Mosque in Gulberg-III had broken and sewage was mixing with drinking water.

“It is for the third time during the last few months that we are facing such a problem. We have time and again complained to officials of Town-III, but no action has been taken in this regard.”

They feared that diseases might break out in the locality due to consumption of the contaminated water. They urged officials concerned to ensure supply of clean water to them because they could not afford fetching water from other streets.

Madad Khan, an elderly resident of the Kiran Street, said he had also apprised the MPA from the area, provincial Minister for Sports and Tourism Syed Aaqil Shah, who had promised to provide money from his own pocket for repairing the supply line, but nothing had been done so far.

A resident of Shaheem Muslim Town said people were facing difficulties due to shortage of water in the area.

A local nazim, Javaid Khan, said the existing tube-well could not cater to the needs of the area because the population was fast increasing and the time of water supply was very short.

He said two new tube-wells and installation of separate transformers had been approved but work on the projects was yet to start. He appealed to the provincial government for early solution to the problem because it was aggravating day by day.

Despite repeated attempts, the town nazim could not be reached on his phone.
