SHEIKHUPURA, May 2: A man threw his three children into a canal allegedly after failing to win his estranged wife over and they drowned in Gogera Branch Canal near Chak Watwan in Nankana Sahib district on Friday.

Ishfaq and Shumaila married around seven years ago and had three children -- five-year-old Rabia, four-year-old Talah and one-year-old Faizan.

Later, they developed matrimonial disputes, which culminated on estrangement and Shumaila went to her parents’ home in the same village, leaving the children with her husband.

On Friday, Ishfaq went to his in-laws to take his wife back, but, to his utter disappointment, she refused.

Frustrated Ishfaq later threw his children into a nearby canal where they drowned. Their bodies had not been fished out till the filing of this report in the evening.

The Nankana Sadar police are investigating.shot dead: Four highwaymen shot dead a wagon driver on resistance on Narang-Narowal Road on Friday.

Reports said Arif was carrying passengers to Narowal from Narang Mandi by his wagon when robbers intercepted him at a picket.

The armed men then started collecting cash and valuables from passengers. As the driver tried to resist, the robbers fired at him, killing him on the spot.

Narang police are looking into the matter.

In another incident, two gun-toting men intercepted Khalid Beg and deprived him of Rs200,000 in cash and a cell phone near Bhoe Dassal village in the limits of Ferozewala police station.
