HYDERABAD, May 2: The Azad Magsi Ittehad (AMI) of Tando Allahyar has postponed its protest scheduled for May 3 (today) reportedly after intervention by some Islamabad-based government functionaries.

Tando Allahyar District Nazim Dr Rahila Gul Magsi had sought government intervention to put an end to what she called vindictive actions by Pakistan People’s Party leaders against the members of the district council belonging to the AMI, an alliance headed by her.

A press release issued from Tando Allahyar said that a meeting of the alliance was held on Friday. It was presided over by the nazim and attended by some union council nazims, naib nazims and members of the district and taluka councils.

She informed them that she had been contacted by some high-ups in Islamabad and asked to reach Islamabad. She said that she would inform government functionaries about the atrocities committed against her allies.

Last Friday she alleged at a press conference that her supporters were being booked in false cases of water theft and three naib nazims had been kidnapped and confined wrongfully to force them to change their loyalties.

The alliance had planned to hold a rally in the city outside press club to give vent to their feelings.

The nazim with her father Allah Bux Magsi, who had been president the Hyderabad district chapter of the Pakistan Muslim League, met PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif at his Raiwind residence on April 23. She had raised these issues with him.
