PESHAWAR May 1: Noted religious scholar and Jumaat Ishaat Al Tauheed Wal Sunnah chief Maulana Mohammad Tayyab survived an attempt on his life at his village Panjpir in Swabi district Wednesday evening.

Maulana Tayyab miraculously escaped unhurt when Polytechnic Institute Vice Principal Abdul Zahir allegedly opened firing on him near his Madressah.

Maulana Tayyab tried to capture the accused however he managed to flee from the scene leaving his pistol there. The local police on the report of Maulana raided the institute and recovered equipment of an illegal FM radio channel and registered a case against its vice principal under Section 13(A) (O) and Section 324.

Later briefing journalists at his residence in Panjpir Village, Maulana Tayyab said the accused and his other accomplices attacked him which infuriated his students and well-wishers.

He said he had time and again told the accused to close his illegal FM radio channel as it was promoting vulgarity and obscenity in the areas besides affecting the sermons in the nearby seminaries in Panjpir and Shah Mansoor areas. — APP
