HYDERABAD: SPO suspended

Published May 2, 2008

HYDERABAD, May 1: DPO Dr Najaf Quli Mirza has suspended Latifabad Supervising Police Officer Ayub Durrani and transferred three SHOs of the city.

Mr Durrani is believed to have been suspended in the wake of local Pakistan People’s Party leaders’ complaints to the Sindh chief minister and home minister about his alleged role in election-related disputes on February 18.

He was also accused of backing some other police officers who had intruded into a polling station in Qasimabad. A police source said that although neither no charges were levelled against him nor a show-cause notice issued to him, he is being accused of corruption. A formal charge sheet is to be issued to him shortly.

Sakhi Pir SHO Rao Nazim and Phulelli SHO Ahmed Qureshi have been asked to report to police headquarters and Market SHO Amir Jafri has been transferred to the Sakhi Pir police station.

District Intelligence Bureau in-charge Rana Shafiq and inspector Dawoodur Rehman have been posted as the SHO of Phulelli and Market police stations.
