KARACHI, April 30: The Pakistan Medical Association, Karachi, has urged the City District Government Karachi (CDGK) to ensure intensive fumigation and proper cleanliness across the city to prevent any outbreak of malaria and gastro-enteritis.

In a statement, the PMA observed that hospitals and clinics were receiving an increasing number of malaria and gastro-enteritis cases, and said that immediate measures were necessary to prevent the situation from getting worse.

Signed by Dr Samrina Hashmi, the statement also urged the city nazim to declare emergency at the CDGK and health department health care facilities.

The association has also expressed its concern over the rising cases of waterborne diseases, including typhoid and cholera. It advised people to consume boiled water, and immediately refer to a qualified doctor if anyone with diarrhoea/vomiting did not respond to ORS with in 24 hours.

It further warned the general public against consuming risky items like gola-ganda, dubious soft drinks, spurious or rotten fruits and vegetables, etc.
