Cyclone threatens Bangladesh

DHAKA, April 30: Authorities in Bangladesh on Wednesday warned fishing crews to stay close to shore as a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal churned towards the southeastern coast, with a direct hit possible later in the week.

Thousands of people in the disaster-prone country are still struggling to cope with the devastation caused by Cyclone Sidr last November. More than 3,000 people died when the storm slammed into the southern coast.—AFP
