OKARA, April 29: Dozens of activists of Anjuman-i-Mazareen Punjab on Tuesday reportedly prevented police and revenue officials from investigating allegations of setting fire to two acres of wheat crop at kulana Estate village.
Reports said as deputy district officer (revenue), along with a heavy contingent of Okara Saddar circle police, led by a DSP, reached the estate to investigate the charges against AMP activists, dozens of men and women holding clubs and rods blocked their way, forcing them out of 28A/2R village lands.
AMP’s Kulana Estate President Malik Saleem Jakkhar told Dawn that the police and DDO (R) wanted to get 175 acres of lands vacated from AMP.
However, DSP Attique Butt denied facing any resistance from AMP activists, but confirmed the police visited the village to probe into wheat crop burning charges.
He also denied the police wanted to get land vacated from AMP.
