ISLAMABAD, April 28: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani on Monday expressed his government’s strong resolve to restore the 1973 Constitution in order to ensure supremacy of parliament and strengthen all state institutions, including the judiciary.

The prime minister was talking to a delegation of members of the Balochistan Assembly at the Pime Minister’s House here on Monday.

The delegation was led by Deputy Speaker Matiullah Agha.

“The foremost objective of the democratic government is to serve the people and to provide them equal economic opportunities, despite financial constraints,” the prime minister said.

He expressed the hope that the new democratic set-up in Balochistan which represented all shades of opinion and political groups would meet people’s expectations.

He said the coalition government would work to provide basic amenities to the people.

The prime minister also said that the government was trying to solve the problem of food and energy shortage and taking both short- and long-term measures to address these issues.

The delegation congratulated the prime minister on assuming his office and expressed confidence that the government’s reconciliation efforts and its 100-day programme would bring about socio-economic changes in the country.

Mr Baz Khan Khetran, a former PPP MNA, also attended the meeting.

In a meeting with Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Ali Magsi, the prime minister said the federal government attached top priority to the development of Balochistan and would extend all possible help to the provincial government.

Mr Gilani and Governor Magsi also discussed efforts being made to restore peace in Balochistan.
