LAHORE, April 24: The career guidance and placement centre of the Government College University on Thursday organised a `career fair 2008’ at its Bokhari Auditorium, where a number of banks and multinational companies set up their stalls.

The students of varsity's management studies, economics, chemistry, computer science, statistics departments and Centre for Advanced Studies in Physics (CASP) attended the fair.

The companies conducted interviews of the university students and received their CVs for internship and job placement purposes.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, GCU vice-chancellor Prof Dr Khalid Aftab said a strong bond between the institution and the graduates helped in creating an ambiance of creativity and intellect. He said the individual's commitment, sincerity and focus on studies led to acquiring better future job placements.

Prof Aftab said the GCU was providing a congenial learning environment to its students for the sake of providing potential and bright graduates to the industry so that they could exercise their talent and expertise.

He said the university had arranged the career fair for the first time to help its graduates secure job placement. He said the university would strengthen this link with financial institutions and multinational organisations in future as well.

GCU academic planning and external links director Fouzia Shaheen and placement officer Waqar Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.
