LAYYAH, April 23: The district food department has recovered 5,250 bags of wheat from hoarders at Adda Rafiqabad, some 28 kilometers from here.

A food department raiding team, headed by the district food controller, together with a Choubara police team, raided Adda Rafiqabad and recovered 5,250 bags of wheat illegally stored by nine hoarders.

On intervention by an MPA and Anjuman Arhatian President Chaudhry Muhammad Jameel, the food department decided not to register a case against the hoarders and instead purchased the recovered bags of wheat from the hoarders. However, on the report of food inspector Ejaz Ahmad, the Choubara police registered a case against one of the commission agents who had allegedly misbehaved with the raiding party and threatened it with dire consequences.

The food department recovered 250 bags of wheat from the commission agent, Tariq Mahmood.

Clerk jailed: A registry clerk landed in jail after he created fuss during office hours and abused his colleagues under the influence on Wednesday.

Having no other option, some officials handed him over to the police who detained him at the tehsil judicial lockup.

The post of registry clerk is considered to be highly sought-after as the officials involve in hefty transactions daily.
