NAUSHAHRO FEROZE, April 16: More than 150 villagers staged a demonstration and observed a sit-in on the National Highway near Saleh Rajpar village near Kandiaro on Wednesday in protest against police for subjecting an old man to torture and keeping him in detention.

The protesters led by Mohammad Moosa, Manzoor and Allah Bux said that Kandiaro police arrested an old man Gulan Bhudh, 65, in Dilbar Bhudh village and a private person who had accompanied the police severely beat up the old man.

SPO Kandiaro reached the place and persuaded the protesters to end protest and disperse peacefully. Police later released the old man.

Meanwhile, residents of five villages staged a demonstration on Tharushah-Kandiaro road in protest against the nazim of union council Palano on Wednesday.

The villagers who were raising slogans against the nazim alleged that he was constructing the office of union council in his village, Sattar Dino Ujjan, instead of constructing it in Darbelo or Tharushah.

They alleged that the nazim would use the office as his Otaq and demanded that work on the union council office should be stopped immediately and it should be reconstructed either in Darbelo or in Tharushah.

Transfers, postings: The district finally got an EDO of revenue on Wednesday after about two years when Manzoor Ahmed Soomro who had been transferred from Nawabshah took charge.

According to official handouts, the EDO of health has been transferred to Karachi and Dr Ahmed Bux Bhutto of Ghulam Mohammad Mehar Medical College Hospital has been posted EDO of health of Naushahro Feroze while the Medical Superintendent of Naushahro Feroze Civil Hospital Dr Ghulam Rasool Almani has been transferred.
