LAHORE, April 13: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has decided to take legal action against the organisers of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) for using Pakistan’s name in the competition while referring to some former Pakistani players who opted to play in the controversial tournament.

“We have decided to initiate legal action against them because it is illegal to use the country’s name for a team or any player taking part in the event as they do not have the board’s approval in this regard,” said PCB’s Chief Operating Officer Shaqfat Nagmi while talking to newsmen here on Sunday.

The former Pakistan captain Inzamam ul Haq is leading a group of players in the ICL who are using the name ‘Pakistan’ while giving the impression that they belong to the national side.

“The practice is creating a wrong impression and we are going to stop it through legal action,” he said.

The team in question was formerly named ‘Lahori Badshahs’ and PCB had no objection to it.

Nagmi said that the PCB cannot allow any individual or a group of players to use the country’s name because the ICL was neither recognised by the PCB nor the ICC.— APP
