QUETTA, April 22: Frontier Corps and Coast Guards have abolished around two dozen of their checkpoints established in different areas of Balochistan, a spokesman of the Balochistan government announced here late on Monday night.

The decision in this regard was taken at a meeting held here, attended by senior military and civil officials.

“These checkpoints were established in view of people’s demand,” the said, adding that people were facing difficulties during travelling in different areas of the province.

According to the decision 12 checkpoints of Frontier Corps and other law-enforcing agencies between Quetta and border town Chaman were abolished and now only one FC checkpoint would work at Shela Bagh.

The Coast Guards checkpoint at Uthal has also removed. However, it was decided that snap checking would be undertaken in the area by Coast guards. All checkpoints between border town Taftan and Quetta were also removed. Frontier Corps would retain only two checkpoints at Nukondi and Sheikh Wasal at ECO highway between Quetta and Taftan.

The spokesman said two other checkpoints in border town Mand and Hoshab in Makran division were also abolished.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf had announced in Quetta’s public meeting that unnecessary checkpoints of different law enforcement agencies would be removed in Balochistan.
