SAHIWAL, April 22: Farid Town police on Monday arrested a student leader allegedly involved in a dacoity case.
He was sent to central jail on 14-day judicial remand.
Police had registered a case against Muslim Students Federation (Q) president Saqlain Jat for committing a dacoity in Chak 89/6-R on April 17. After getting the bail, he started hurling murder threats to the complainant. The court cancelled his bail when the complainant submitted an application.
RELEASED: Two detainees of defunct religious outfits were released from the central jail here on Sunday.
Those released are Maulvi Liaquat Ali and Maulana Muaavia Zakir. They were detained for three months on the orders of the Punjab government.
Out of 81 detainees, 79 have been released from the Sahiwal jail. Only two detainees, Maulana Mushtaq and Maulana Ahmed Yar of the Khanewal district, have left in prison.
RALLY: Wheat growers staged a protest rally on the arrival of provincial education minister Akhtar Saeed here on Monday.
They alleged that priority was being accorded to traders at wheat procurement centres instead of growers as had been promised by the government.
A delegation led by Chaudhry Muhammad Ashraf told the minister that Food officials had also failed to provide ‘Bardana’ to growers at procurement centres. Those who managed to get the ‘bardana’ were fleeced through different ways, they said.
