KARACHI, April 9: The Sindh Assembly has condemned the acts of violence that claimed many innocent lives and left some offices in Karachi Bar and Malir Bar vicinities burnt.

The house, which was called to order two and a half hours behind its scheduled time of 9.30am, was prorogued after a sitting of over five hours at 6.10pm on Wednesday.

Besides the resolution condemning the acts of violence, moved by PPP parliamentary leader Pir Mazhar-ul-Haq under Rule 211 after suspension of relevant provisions, the house unanimously adopted a resolution over the assassination of PPP chairperson Benazir Bhutto.

Before adopting the condolence resolution moved by over 30 members, they eulogised her services to the nation and the country and her role in the restoration of democracy.

Earlier at the start of the assembly proceedings, Speaker Nisar Khuhro took notice of the absence of officers in the official gallery. Observing that a single officer was present there, he directed the assembly secretary to ensure their presence in future.

The Muttahida Quami Movement, Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, NPP, and seven out of eight members of PML-Q continued their boycott.
