SHEIKHUPURA, April 8: A committee constituted by the local government secretary on Tuesday to look into complaints of irregularities in Sheikhupura TMA’s financial and administrative affairs has started working.

The committee has been constituted after the government took a serious notice of public complaints regarding Sheikhupura TMA’s administrative and financial affairs. It will probe into the allegations and submit a report within a fortnight.

The committee is headed by local government commission member Lt-Col Muhammad Shahbaz (retired) and comprises Kaleem Ahmed Hayat, local government department's additional director-general (admin) Kaleem Ahmed Hayat and additional director-general (I&S) Muhammad Ashraf Janjua.

The complaints are related to financial irregularities and mismanagement in the provision of civic facilities to the general public.

On Tuesday, Col Shahbaz and others paid a surprise visit to various city areas to physically check the performance and delivery of services by the TMA.

The committee found the sanitation of major city areas quite poor. People also informed it of their daily problems regarding disposal of solid waste, sanitation and supply of clean drinking water.
