LAHORE, April 1: Tehreek-i-Insaf Vice President Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry has demanded early formulation of a code of conduct for resumption of students’ unions.

Voicing the demand in a statement here on Tuesday, he said all political parties and administrations of educational institutions should participate in evolving the code of conduct for students’ unions which should clearly state that these bodies would be used for training the students in democratic practices without any outside political interference.

He said the training would help prepare the students for their future role as voters.

The restoration of students unions could play a healthy role in training the students in democratic practices, he added.

The arguments given for imposing a ban on students’ unions during the tenure of late Gen Ziaul Haq that they promoted violence and affected educational standards adversely had been proved wrong.

PIAF: The Pakistan Industrial Association Front has asked the new government to strengthen the economy by giving a boost to exports and facilitate the growth of the large-scale manufacturing (LSM) sector.

Commenting on the State Bank of Pakistan's second quarterly report, PIAF chairman Mian Abuzar Shad said huge spendings made by the previous government had now started showing results. Unprecdented power loadshedding had made the smooth running of industry impossible because the past rulers had failed to make arrangements for increasing the generation despite having the knowledge of increase in consumption.

He said Federal Finance Minister Ishaq Dar should not only pay attention to measures for increase in power generation but also take steps for reducing the high cost of doing business resulting in undue increase in cost of products. —Reporter
