ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Sunday that every member of his cabinet would be required to closely adhere to the 100-day programme announced by him in the National Assembly to provide immediate relief to the common man.

Talking to prospective members of the federal cabinet at the PM’s House in the evening, Mr Gilani said the nation should be honestly informed about the factual position of each ministry so that the people had a fair idea about what the new government had inherited.

The leadership of coalition parties has decided in principle that the position of each ministry with regard to actual availability of resources would be looked into immediately after the oath-taking of ministers. People would be informed about it to let them have an idea as to how long would it take for the new coalition government to provide short- and long-term relief.

The prime minister said that the nation was looking forward to policies to be made by this cabinet for bringing about improvement in their life. The unprecedented mandate given to the parties in the coalition government, he said, had put immense pressure on the new government.

Mr Gilani said that the government had already set its priorities, including improvement in the energy situation, availability of wheat and job opportunities.

He said the people wanted to see a change in the system of governance and a qualitative change in their life.
