LARKANA, April 20: The Sindh High Court, circuit bench, Larkana, on Friday asked the SHO of Waleed police station to register an FIR against eight accused persons, including the jail superintendent of the central prison, Larkana.

Aijaz Ali Bozdar, the brother of an under-trial prisoner (UTP), Sajjad Ali Bozdar, who had allegedly been tortured in the central prison, Larkana, had filed a constitutional petition in the Sindh High Court, circuit bench, Larkana, with the prayer to direct the SHO of Waleed police station to register an FIR against eight people, including jail superintendent Manzoor Ahmed Memon, a UTP, Ali Hassan Bozdar, constable Nadir Abro, constable Qurban Shahani, constable Ammanullah Mashori, constable Mumtaz Bhatti, constable Wazeer Chandio and constable Imam Bakhsh Golo.

The petitioner alleged that the accused persons have tied Sajjad’s hands and legs and beat him with leather belts and sticks resulting in his spinal cord and lower limbs being injured.

The additional advocate general of Sindh, M. Bachal Tunio, on Friday submitted that an FIR regarding the same incident had already been registered with the Waleed police station.

However, on being pointed out that the division bench of the court had already decided that the second FIR could be recorded. He submitted that the police had to take action in accordance with the law.

Justice Wahid Bakhsh Brohi observed that it was the right of every citizen and also the petitioner that he should be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The court directed that as and when the petitioner appears before the SHO of the Waleed police station and makes a statement, the same may be recorded, and if cognizable offence is made out within the meaning of section 154 Cr.PC the case be registered accordingly.
