HYDERABAD, March 27: Karachi Corps Commander Lt-Gen Ahsan Azhar Hyat on Thursday performed the ground-breaking of soldiers’ accommodation in Chhor cantonment as part of the ‘Year of the soldier’ programme.

According to an ISPR press release, the corps commander said Chief of the Army Staff Gen Ashfaq Parvez Kayani had devised a comprehensive plan to improve the standard of life of soldiers, under which Rs10 billion would be spent on renovation and construction of accommodation in various garrisons.

He said the COAS had also announced various other welfare measures for the soldiers, including increase in ration scale, free education for children, uniform allowance and improvement of medical facilities.—APP
