Two mills sealed in Gujranwala

GUJRANWALA, March 26: The food department sealed two flour mills on the charge of smuggling after a raiding team caught their two flour-laden trucks near the upper Chenab river bridge in Wazirabad on Wednesday.

The flour bags were said to be smuggled to tribal areas.

Reports said that deputy director Ahmad Aziz Tarar received a tip that owners of two mills were involved in smuggling of flour bags to tribal areas. At this, he along with his men picketed near the Chenab river bridge and intercepted the trucks and seized flour bags.

The food department also got registered smuggling cases against owners of both flour mills.

RESCUE SERVICE: The Rescue 1122 service has been introduced in Gujranwala with the deployment of over 300 personnel at four stations.

District officer Dr Muhammad Ismail said here on Wednesday that the service had been launched to facilitate citizens in case of any emergency or fire incidents on one phone call.

He said that a dozen ambulances and four fire brigade vehicles would be available to provide immediate help to the people.

He said rescue officials had already completed a survey of almost all city streets, bazaars and localities to avoid any hurdle during the provision of these facilities.

FIRE: Four labourers fainted while extinguishing a fire erupted in a cloth godown in Farid Town here on Wednesday.

The fire broke out in the warehouse owing to short-circuiting which later engulfed the whole building, reducing valuables worth millions of rupees to ashes. The labourers tried to put out the fire, as a result of which four of them fainted. They were later taken to DHQ Hospital in critical condition.
