Rhinos stun SSGC in cup tie

Published March 26, 2008

KARACHI, March 25: Abbottabad Rhinos chalked up their first victory in the National One-day Cricket Championship when they surprisingly trounced Southern Sui Gas Company (SSGC) by nine wickets in a Group ‘A’ fixture at the National Stadium on Tuesday.

Paceman Junaid Khan was their hero with figures of four for 16 as SGGC, electing to bat first in the day’s only match in the tournament which was televised, were shot out for a measly 104 inside 34 overs.

Barring the experienced Saeed bin Nasir (42 off 73 balls, seven fours), it was abject surrender by the departmental outfit. Slow left-armers Noor-ul-Amin (3-28) and Khalid Usman (3-5) lent excellent support to Junaid.

The Rhinos then romped to victory by reaching 107 for one in 20.3 overs with opener Wajid Ali striking eight boundaries in an undefeated 52 off 60 deliveries.
