ISLAMABAD, March 24: In a significant reshuffle in the army’s hierarchy, Lt-Gen Ijaz Ahmad Bakshi and Lt-Gen Nadeem Ahmed have been posted as Corps Commanders of Lahore and Mangla, respectively. This is the first reshuffle carried out by Gen Ashfaq Pervaiz Kayani after taking over as the army chief.

Gen Bakshi was serving as the Chief of Logistic Staff (CLS) at the General Headquarters and Gen Nadeem was working as Deputy Chairman of the Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (Erra).

Lt-Gen Shafaat Ullah Shah, Corps Commander of Lahore, has been posted as the Chief of Logistic Staff (CLS) at the General Headquarters. Gen Shah has also served as military secretary to President Gen Pervez Musharraf.

Mangla Corps Commander Lt-Gen Sajjad Akram has been posted as Deputy Chairman of Erra. He was serving as the Director General of NAB before he was elevated to the rank of Lt Gen and posted as the Corps Commander of Mangla.

In 2003, he was appointed the Force Commander (FC) for the United Nations Mission in Sierra Leone (UNAMSIL).

Commissioned in 1971, he has also served in the ISI.

Lt-Gen Shujaat Zamir Dar, who was serving as the Director General of Doctrine and Evaluation (D&E) at the GHQ, has been posted as the Director General of Weapons and Equipment.

Maj-Gen Mukhtar Ahmed, the Director General of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), has been posted as the Director General in the General Headquarters.

Maj-Gen Muhammad Rehan Burney has been promoted to the rank of Lt-Gen and appointed Surgeon General of Pakistan Army and Director General of Medical Services (Inter-services).

He has been brought in place of Lt-Gen Mushtaq Ahmad Baig who died in a suicide attack in Rawalpindi last month.

Gen Burney did his MBBS from King Edward Medical College and joined the army in 1977. He is a qualified surgeon and renowned urologist. He has been commandant of the Armed Forces Institute of Urology. At present he is the Director General of Surgery at the Medical Directorate.
