KARACHI, March 24: Pakistan People’s Party co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari called the Muttahida Qaumi Movement chief Altaf Hussain on Monday and thanked him for MQM’s unconditional support for Makhdoom Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani.

According to an MQM press release, Mr Zardari assured Mr Hussain that the PPP would take along all political parties in the largest interest of the country and democracy.

Mr Zardari also thanked MQM’s members of the National Assembly for voting in favour of Mr Gilani.

The MQM chief congratulated PPP workers, chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and co-chairman Asif Zardari on the election of Mr Gilani.

Mr Hussain also felicitated Mr Gilani on behalf of his party.

He hoped that the new prime minister would work in cooperation with all political parties in coping with the challenges being faced by the country, promoting democratic norms, eliminating extremism and terrorism, alleviating poverty and ensuring supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law.
