LARKANA, March 24: The Sindh government has decided to adopt Tajjar Building and preserve it as a monument after archaeology department’s approval to undertake its conservation and set up a museum within its premises.

The building was constructed in 1833 in Larkana where Nawab Wali Mohammad Leghari was buried as amanat during Kalhora period. In this regard, a meeting was held here on Monday under the chairmanship of the Director-General of Projects and Special Initiatives of Services and General Administration Department, Kaleem Lashari, during which a supervising committee was also constituted. The committee would be headed by the District Coordination Officer (DCO). Its task would be to look after the restoration work with fresco paintings in the building.

Another committee would collect documents, evidences and artifacts related to Nawab Leghari.

It also decided to post curator for this building while pre-British period historical evidences depicting different aspects of life about Larkana would also collected, as the work of the committee would stretch over seven years.

The EDO works and services Larkana, Mukhtair Janveri, told the meeting that the structure of the building was quite intact and need was to protect it from the negative effects of water-logging and salinity.

The representative of the department of archaeology pledged to provide more information regarding the previous efforts of the restoration so as to continue work in its light.

The district government and taluka council of Larkana would be approached for earmarking permanent grant for undertaking research work.
