KARACHI, March 24: Police on Monday arrested two more suspects from among the staff employed at the Mazar-i-Quaid in connection with the gang-rape allegedly committed on the premises of the mausoleum after the kidnapping of a young woman on the night of March 15.

Earlier, police had arrested an assistant manager of security of the mazar, who was subsequently identified by the rape victim before court.

The 18-year-old woman was subjected to rape after being kidnapped inside the Mazar-i-Quaid compound on the night of March 15. She was found in an unstable condition at the gate of the mausoleum in the early hours of March 17. Subsequently, police registered a case under Section 365-B of the Pakistan Penal Code. The section was inserted in the PPC through the Protection of Women Act 2006.

The victim had stated that she was raped by five men in a room situated beneath the staircase leading to the museum.

“We have arrested two more suspects who were in possession of the keys of the room identified by the victim as the crime scene,” said the SSP for investigation, South, Niaz Khosa.

Police said one of the arrested suspects was a security guard whereas the other was a canteen supervisor at the mazar. “We will produce the suspects in court on Tuesday to obtain their physical remand,” the SSP said.
