Sherpao favours 58-2(b) abolition

ISLAMABAD, March 19: Pakistan People’s Party-S chief Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao said on Wednesday his party would support the abolition of Article 58-2 (b) of the Constitution.

“Surely, we would support the resolution for abolition of the Article 58-2 (b) in the National assembly,” he said in reply to a question outside Parliament.

Mr Sherpao said political parties, particularly those forming the coalition government, must avoid confrontation.

“We want Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians and Pakistan Muslim League alliance to be continued in larger national interest,” Mr Sherpao said.

“Confrontation must be avoided because it would damage the political process,” he warned.

When asked about proposed resolution seeking reinstatement of deposed judges, the former interior minister said: “We would decide whether to support or oppose the resolution when it comes in parliament.”

He said the opposition parties would play a positive role in National Assembly.—APP
