KARACHI, March 18: As many as 102 of the 114 illegal jobseekers deported from Abu Dhabi gave the slip to FIA personnel on Tuesday at the Quaid-i-Azam International Airport.

FIA’s immigration officials said the deportees had arrived at around 9:45pm by an Etihad Airways flight and were detained behind the immigration counter in the arrival lounge of the Jinnah Terminal. They smashed a portion of the glass wall of the counter and got away.

Witnesses, however, said the trouble started after some of the deportees were manhandled by the immigration staff.

Sources said the 12 deportees officials claimed to have been arrested had not joined the group which escaped and chose to stay back. They said the detained deportees belonged to northern areas.
