KHANEWAL, March 16: Former Sindh High Court chief justice Wajihuddin has said that tenants cultivating crops on the state land deserved to be given the ownership rights.

He said this while addressing a tenants’ convention organized by Anjuman Mazaraeen Punjab (AMP) at Perowal farms, some 15kms from here, on Sunday.

He said that President Pervez Musharraf would have to go if deposed judges were restored.

Mr Wajihuddin blamed the military rulers for massive distribution of agriculture land in Badin and kutcha areas of Sindh province among the forces personnel.

He said that lawyers, civil society and judiciary had presented unprecedented sacrifices to maintain rule of law in the country.

Earlier addressing a function organized by the Liberal Forum Pakistan at the District Bar Association’s hall, Mr Wajih said a simple resolution in parliament would be enough to restore the judiciary.

“We don’t want a simple resolution amid a condemnation only. We want the resolution mentioning the illegal steps taken by the government on Nov 3 and later,” he demanded.
