KHANEWAL, March 15: A man allegedly burnt his infant son to death after quarreling with his wife at Chak 76/15-L, about 35 kilometers from here.

Reports said Muhammad Ilyas quarreled with his wife Asmat Batool over a petty matter and in a fit of anger doused his one-and-a-half-year old son with kerosene and set him on fire. The baby died after about two hours. The police, however, denied the infant died from burns caused by Ilyas.

“Ilyas and Asmat quarreled with each other on which Asmat sprayed kerosene oil on her infant,” Chab Kalan police station investigation officer Sadiq Hussain told Dawn. The infant actually died of cholera, he added. “However, we are investigating the incident and we have not yet registered the case,”.—Correspondent
