20 hurt in fireworks blast

OKARA, April 17: Over 20 people sustained wounds, three of them critical, on Wednesday in a fireworks explosion in the city outskirts.

Members of a wedding party, including groom Shahid Nazim Din of Kot Liaquat Hayat, suffered burn injuries when a large stack of fire crackers lying in a nearby premises suddenly blew up. The loud explosion accompanied with flames created panic among the people, and several people including children suffered injuries in the stampede that followed. Local residents also ran out of their houses in panic.

Three of the injured were shifted to a Lahore hospital in critical condition.—APP
