Portsmouth in FA Cup semis

Published March 9, 2008

LONDON, March 8: Portsmouth stunned Manchester United with a 1-0 victory at Old Trafford on Saturday to reach the FA Cup semi-finals.

The visitors were under siege throughout but a rare break 12 minutes from time ended with Milan Baros being fouled by United keeper Tomasz Kuszczak who was sent off and Sulley Muntari beating stand-in goalie Rio Ferdinand from the penalty spot.

Minutes earlier Portsmouth keeper David James has turned a Patrice Evra shot against the post. United were twice denied by goalline clearances, once when Sylvain Distin made a saving tackle on Michael Carrick and earlier when Glen Johnson headed a Carlos Tevez shot away.—Reuters
