SIALKOT, March 7: A mob stormed the emergency ward of the Pasrur Civil Hospital and broke its doors, windows, furniture and equipment in protest against the non-availability of a doctor to conduct autopsy of a youth who was found slain in a water channel in Mehtabpur-Hunjali village, Pasrur tehsil.

Eighteen-year-old Muhamm-ad Afzal of Pasrur’s Rehman-pura locality had gone to Mehtabpur-Hunjali village to see his relatives, but he was killed on his way and his body was thrown in the water channel.

On Friday evening, members of Afzal’s family, together with many other people, took his body to the Pasrur Civil Hospital for an autopsy, but found no doctor at the emergency ward.

In consequence, the angry people attacked the emergency ward.

Later, they took the body to Pasrur Kutchery and staged a protest there against the health department authorities and the police.

However, the protesters dispersed after talks with the police officials.

Later, a senior doctor was called in from Sialkot’s Allama Iqbal Memorial Hospital, who conducted the autopsy.

The doctor deputed at the emergency ward belongs to Sialkot and returns to his home after 3pm because he has no residence in Pasrur, according to the Civil Hospital management which gave reason for the unavailability of the doctor.
