JHANG, April 16: Two dacoits were shot dead while another sustained injuries in an encounter with police following a strike in Bagh Town, some 10km from here, on Tuesday afternoon.

Reports said five dacoits appeared in the town, the Jhang Toba Tek Singh Road. Two of them stayed in the car while three entered Hanif Arian’s house as guests to her daughter’s wedding. They held up the women inmates, bagged jewellery (dowry) and valuables worth Rs150,000 and fled.

On women’s hue and cry, some neighbours chased the dacoits till they jumped into a canal.

Meanwhile, a police contingent reached the spot. In the encounter that ensued, two of the dacoits were shot dead while the third one sustained injuries. The injured was identified as Abid Javed.

However, police claimed the dacoits shot themselves dead when they saw the contingent.
