KARACHI, March 6: The unbeaten run of promising Asfand Rauf came to a halt on Thursday when he went down to seasoned Jalil Khan in three sets in the men’s singles pre-final of second Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club.

Asfand, who in the run up to the last four eliminated Zuhair Raza and Nasir Mushtaq on successive days was off to a brisk start taking the first set 6-4. However, he failed to maintain the pace and lost the next two sets tamely 1-6, 1-6.

Top seed Jalil is set to meet sibling Yasir Khan who in the other semi-final had a 6-1, 6-1 short work of Vinod Das.

Men’s singles semi-finals:

Jalil Khan bt Asfand Rauf 4-6, 6-1, 6-1; Yasir Khan bt Vinod Das 6-1, 6-1.

Boys U-15 singles pre quarter-finals:

Uzair Abdul Qadir bt Naveed Abbas 6-0, 6-2, Omer Osman bt Sheryar Ahmed 6-3, 6-3.

Boys U-13 singles pro-set first round:

Mudassir Nisar bt Aamir Ali 8-4.

Friday’s fixtures:

Juniors U-17 singles 9.00am; men’s singles final 10.30am; boys U-13 singles 12.00noon; ladies singles 1.00pm; boys U-11 singles 1.30pm; boys U-9 singles 2.00pm.
