KARACHI, March 1: Mustafa Tariq sweat in the court for over two hours to overcome his opponent in a three-set duel on the opening day of the second Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the DHA Sunset Club on Saturday.

After conceding the opener to Uzair Abdul Qadir 5-7, he struggled to claim the next two sets 6-4, 6-3 to cruise into next round of juniors U-17 singles which saw no less then three walkovers.

Third seed Omer Shahid and fifth seed Abdul Rehman who got a first round bye, had no difficulty in reaching the last eight. The former subdued Basit Gabol 6-2, 6-1 while the latter posted 6-0, 6-0 win over Naveed Anjum. Four other seeded players in the same category who have got bye in the first round are Zuhair Raza, Mustafa Zaidi, Talha Saeed and Bilal Saeed.
