PESHAWAR, April 14: The leaders of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal here on Sunday extended invitation to the leaders of different political parties and representatives of lawyers community to attend its meeting on April 20.
The one-point agenda of the meeting is to discuss the presidential referendum scheduled for April 30.
MMA leaders Sirajul Haq, Abdul Jalil Jan, Maulana Hamidul Haq Haqqani, Hakim Abdul Wahid and Fazlur Rehman Madani held meetings with the ANP provincial president Begum Nasim Wali Khan, Aurangzeb Khan, Haji Ghulam Ahmad Bilour, Bashir Bilour and Mian Iftikhar and invited them to the meeting.
The MMA leaders also held meetings with Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) leaders Zafar Iqbal Jhagra and Sharafat Ali Mubarik, PPP (Sherpao) leader Sikandar Sherpao, Peshawar High Court Bar Association President Safirullah, District Bar President Sher Afgan Khan, Action Committee President Haji Haleem Jan and Jamiat Mashaikh’s Noorul Haq Qadri and invited them to attend the meeting.
According to a press release, the PML leaders assured the MMA team that they would participate in the meeting, which would evolve a joint strategy to block the referendum.
The leaders of PPP(S) and ANP also assured the MMA leaders that they would soon convene party meetings and seek their leaders’ opinion on participation in the meeting.
The press release said that the MMA had made contacts with politicians and finalized the arrangements for holding the meeting.
