LAHORE, Feb 23: Khan Research Laboratories’ (KRL) Amir Qureshi, who was adjudged best goalkeeper of the Pakistan Premier Soccer League 2007, along with 27 other probables have joined the National Camp currently underway at the Punjab Stadium in preparation for the Second AFC Challenge Cup.

The other 27 players who reported to head coach Akhtar Mohiuddin are:

Muhammad Ahmed, Muhammad Qasim, Muhammad Rasool (KRL), Syed Sultan Ali, Bilal Rafiq, Muhammad Haji, Muhammad Irfan, Imran Hashmi (PIA), Naimat Ullah (PTV) Yasir Younus, Farooq Shah, Atiq Ullah (NBP), Mahmood Ahmed,

Muhammad Imran, Umar Daraz, Imran Hussain, Michael Masih, Shakeel (Army), Imran Niazi (WAPDA), Toqeer Ahmed (Faisalabad), Shahid Nabi (Railways), Orangzeb, Zafar Majeed, Abdul Rehman (KPT), Sajjad Ahmed (Navy), Muhammad Ishtiaq (HBL) and Basit Ghafoor (PEL).

There is an approval for 50 players to attend the camp by Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, president of the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF). The camp, which commenced on Wednesday, concludes on March 31 when the team leaves for Chinese Taipei.

The other 22 players to join the camp later are:

Mujahid (PTV), Ghulam Nabi, Samar Ishaq, Kamran Khan, Shahid Ahmed, MuhammadEssa (KRL), Altaf Ahmed (UK), Tanveer Ahmed, Jamshed Anwar, Muhammad Shahid, Ashfaq Ahmed,

Naveed Akram, Mahmood Ali, Zulfiqar Ali Shah, Zahid Hameed, Arif Mehmood (Wapda), Abbas Ali (NBP), Zeeshan Rehman (Queen’s Park Rangers), Mubashir Hussain, Muhammad Shabbir (Army), Jadeed Khan (Afghan FC), Adnan Farooq Ahmed (Tranmere Rovers).

Chinese Taipei will host the four-team Group-A qualifier, where last edition’s runner-up teams Sri Lanka and Guam are included. The six-match event will run at the Chungshan Soccer Stadium in Taipei.

The winner of Group-A joins North Korea, Turkmenistan, India and Myanmar in the eight-team finals in India. The winner of the AFC Challenge Cup 2008 will automatically enter the 15th Asian Cup 2011.—PPI
