SWABI, Feb 23: Elections for the general bodies of the People’s Lawyers Forum (PLF) and the Swabi Bar Association (SBA) were held here on Saturday.

Mukhtar Ahmad Khan was elected as the president of the PLF and Ahmad Ali Khan president of the SBA, respectively.

Ejaz Anwar was elected senior vice-president of the PLF, Maqbool Khan vice-president, Syed Kifayat Shah general secretary, Muhammad Ejaz joint secretary, Irshad Ahmad press secretary and Aurang Zeb Khan, finance secretary, respectively.

Similarly, Arshad Khan was elected general secretary of the SBA, Mukhtiar Ahmad vice-president, Hamayoon Khan joint secretary, Mukaram Khan finance secretary, and Jamal Saeed librarian secretary, respectively.

Speaking on the occasion, the newly elected president of PLF Mukhtar Ahmad Khan and president of SBA Ahmad Ali Khan said that restoration of superior court judges and independence of the judiciary would remain on the agenda of the PPP. They said that the PPP victory was the natural result of the lawyers struggle for the rule of law, independence of judiciary and supremacy of the constitution.

“It was a great honour for me that all the members of the PLF reposed their confidence in me while electing me as president of the forum,” said Mr Mukhtar. “We want the pre-Nov 3 judiciary and we are hopeful for the same whosoever may form the government.”
